Black-eyed people

No one knows who or what they are. They seemingly appear out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly. Those who have come into contact with these mysterious people all report similar stories: A person or small group of people, usually young teenagers, approach them and ask for help. Something seems off, but it's difficult to place what... Until you look into their eyes which are completely black. Are they even human? Are they aliens? Demons? I intend to find out.

three of three

First, I have some awesome news! One of my friends, Christina, says she works with someone who has seen black-eyed people. Apparently the woman talks about them all the time. Chrissie is going to ask her supervisor if I can come along some day to do an interview. I'm trying not to get too excited, but it would be awesome :) If I can do an interview, I'll post a transcript as soon as possible.

Anyway, here is the last of the three stories in the article o' dooooom. Again, credit to Jason Offutt. I had nothing to do with the original. Bla. Bla. Bla.

Location: Manchester, UK
Time: 1990's

Stephen Dawson had just moved to his own apartment; it was located in the first floor of an old house. During his first night there, something felt off. There were no sounds outside. The darkness in his apartment was suffocating.

Suddenly his bedroom door opened on its own, but nothing was there. His eyes shifted from the door to another part of the room where a girl stared back at him. A girl with black eyes.

He became sleepy as he stared at her, but somehow he was able to come out of the trance. When he came to, he was alone.

I don't think I need to explain why this one doesn't really fit in. In every other story that a BEP shows up at someone's house, there is always a blurb about the BEP demanding to be let in. They also seem to strike fear into the victim once seen, not beforehand. I would probably consider this to be a ghost if anything (especially with the temperature shift) rather than a black-eyed person.

Nawlins

Just a quicky before I go to bed. I want to get this trio done with.

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Date: 2004

This is part two of my summary of this article.

Susan saw a man, about thirty years old, at a grocery store. He was wearing an old-fashioned suit, and he gave off weird vibes. She looked him in the face only to see completely black eyes.

That's about it.

This one is odd for a few reasons. Many people were present. There seemed to be no target. He didn't seem to have much of a goal. Still, I will keep this in the "true" category. The eyes and dark feelings are typical which makes me not doubt it completely.

Murderer

Where: Cumbria, UK
When: June 4, 2010

This is yet another account from Jason Offutt's blog. There are three stories here, and each will receive its own post for organization purposes.

This story is slightly different because the black-eyed person has a name: Derrick Bird. A simple Google search will bring you thousands of results. He went on a killing rampage last year, murdering twelve people before then killing himself.

One person who witnessed part of the killing spree was Jordan Williams, a young boy. Williams watched Bird as he shot another person. His eyes were black.

I have my doubts about this story. Not doubts that it happened--it most certainly did--but the details surrounding Bird do not match those typical of BEP encounters. BEP cases tend to involve people on foot, people asking to enter a property, fear as a weapon, etc. This is by far one of the more reliable cases, but as it doesn't follow typical lore, I will not call this a true case of BEK.

They aren't just boys...

As usual, I must give credit where it is owed. This story is taken from about.com.

Location: Detroit, Michigan
Date: September, 2004

A school teacher, anonymous (I'll call her Mary for simplicity's sake), was doing some at-home repairs when she heard a knock at the door. Just one knock. She ignored it, but it happened again. She already felt scared.

She looked outside, only to see a woman looking at her house. Mary opened her door, and the woman came closer. Once at the door, Mary looked the woman in the face. She immediately froze. The woman's eyes were black orbs.

The woman demanded to be let in. Mary shut and locked the door. It was the only time Mary saw the woman, but she is still haunted by her experience.

At the office

Hellohello! It's time for the next installment of my oh-so-scientific interwebs research! Yeah!

I realize that many of these reports are well-known amongst us BEPers, but I want to organize as much information as possible in a single place for myself and others who are interested in these people. Other than the first post I made, I'm not really going to worry about making them in any sort of chronological order. I'm just going to post them as I come along them because, honestly, there are too many stories out there to be that picky.

Aaaanyway, on to the next story!

First, credit goes to Jason Offutt, who interviews and shares the stories written over at From the Shadows. There's a lot of stuff there to keep you up at night, so after you're done here, you should check it out.

Date: July 31, 2010; 5:00 am
Location: somewhere in Ohio

An anonymous man (Noetic) was walking outside of his workplace one morning when he saw two teenagers who looked to be about 14-16 years old. They gave him a bad feeling right away. He smoked a cigarette and returned to his desk, which showed feeds from the building's security cameras.

The boys began to buzz the intercom from the outside while looking at the camera, beckoning Noetic. Eventually growing tired of the games, he went into the lobby which was equipped with two-way mirrored glass. They were outside but seemed to see straight through the glass. This is when he realized the kids' eyes were completely black.

He was preparing to call the cops when on of the boys spoke and told him not to; they just wanted to use the phone. They eventually went to the back of the building to a blind spot that wasn't seen with the cameras; they disappeared before the cops arrived, though.

There is no mention of which city this happened in. Similarities include: feeling of unexplainable dread; not noticing eye color initially; extreme confidence/arrogance; inhuman reactions

The "original"

As far as I can tell, this is the first reported case of black-eyed kids. I’ve seen it linked from a few other sites, and it being the first is the general consensus. This of course does not mean that it was the first case, only that it’s the first that seems to have been spread around the internet.

Brian Bethel's FAQ on black-eyed kids can be found here.
Archives of the original mailing list thread is here.
Brian Bethel seems to be a newspaper reporter, which gives him a bit more credibility than just another random person on the internet. I definitely suggest reading his original explanation of what happened, but for those that are too lazy to read more than a few words, I will summarize.

In either 1995 or 1997 (assumed from mentioning a Mortal Kombat movie in theaters), Brian drove to the offices of his internet provider to drop his payment off at their offices. He arrived at the offices at around 9:40 pm and began to write his check for the payment when someone knocked on his window. There were two boys wearing hoodies, 10-14 years old, standing outside of his car.

Suddenly, Brian felt an overwhelming sense of dread come over him; there was something wrong with the boys. He stayed, though, to see what they needed. He rolled down his window.

One of the boys said they wanted to see a movie but needed to go back home to get their money. In other words, they wanted a ride. The boy who spoke was extremely confident compared to other children his age, which was unsettling. The second boy looked nervous and guilty, but didn't say anything.

The speaker continued to calmly ask for help, but his tone and mannerisms didn't quite seem natural. He asked to be invited into the car, implying an invitation was necessary for them to get in. And that's when Brian finally looked him in the eyes and realized that, unconsciously, he had started unlocking his door. He also noticed the kids' eyes were pitch black.

Once the look of fear overtook Brian's face, the speaker began to speak louder and more angrily. That's when Brian decided he needed to leave, and so he quickly reversed out of his spot to head out of the parking lot. But not before giving one look back to make sure they weren't following him.

They had disappeared. There was no sign of the boys anywhere in the parking lot.

This post was made in early 1998, so the stories of black-eyed kids have been around for about 13 years now. It happened in Abilene, Texas. I'm not sure if any of this has any meaning, but it's good to keep track of.

Introduction

Hello! My name is Morgan, and I will be your host.

As you can probably tell by the URL of my blog, I am interested in the phenomenon of black-eyed people. Call me crazy, but I am planning on "hunting" them down. Not like on Supernatural; I want to know more about them. I want to try to talk to one if I can. This blog will document my progress and any information I receive on black eyed people.

I'm not going to put too much personal information up, but for those who might be a bit interested in my life, I will give a short introduction.

Like I said earlier, my name is Morgan. I'm 22 and graduated from college last May. Like many other new graduates, I have been unable to find a job other than something part time I do a few days a week. I guess that's one reason I decided to pick up this hobby; if you have a useless job and live with your parents, you need something to keep you sane.
I enjoy reading fiction books--especially horror and science fiction--and memoirs. I play video games sometimes, but the urge comes in waves. I listen to music almost constantly, but I prefer rock and pop; any language is fine as long as the music is catchy :) I have a wonderful pet cat named Whisky and some great friends as well.

Please feel free to leave comments or questions about my research, or recommendations! I look forward to hearing from my future readers. Bye!
